Where to walk, run and ride in Denver, free groups you can join this week, and checked lists of gyms, personal trainers, physical therapists and chiropractors. The City and County of Denver, with a few nearby options in the wider metro area (Boulder, Aurora, Lakewood) where noted.

  • Denver ranks 11th among the 100 largest US cities in the Trust for Public Land’s 2026 ParkScore (73.5 points), with 96.3% of residents living within a 10-minute walk of a park.1
  • The city has 7,547 acres of parkland, about 10.3% of its land area.1
  • Denver placed 5th in the American College of Sports Medicine’s 2026 American Fitness Index of the 100 largest US cities.2
  • Denver Parks and Recreation counts more than 90 miles of off-street, multi-use trails inside city limits, most of them following creeks and rivers.3
How we chose these listings. Every listing is free; nobody paid to appear, and order is not for sale. We started from open map data, then checked in October 2026 that each business’s website works and shows this location, and that each physical therapy and chiropractic clinic matches an active record in the federal NPI registry. Being listed is not a recommendation: check credentials, prices and insurance yourself. Own a business listed here? Email hello@protocolarchive.com and we will correct or remove your listing. Physical therapists in Denver

Outpatient physical therapy clinics. Each one matched an active record in the federal NPI registry when we checked.

Can you see a physical therapist without a referral in Colorado? Colorado allows unrestricted direct access, so you can see a licensed physical therapist without a physician’s referral. There are no visit or time limits, but PTs must refer you on if your condition is outside their scope. Your insurer may still ask for a referral, and Medicare requires a physician or other qualified practitioner to certify the therapy plan of care before it will pay.24,25

Frequently asked questions

Where can I walk in Denver in winter?

On icy days, use an indoor option. Hiawatha Davis Jr. Recreation Center has an indoor track; it is a Local-level center, where a single adult visit has a small fee. Denver residents aged 60 and over can get free membership through MY Denver Prime.

Do I need a referral to see a physical therapist in Colorado?

No. Colorado has unrestricted direct access to physical therapy. Check your insurance plan, though: some insurers still ask for a referral, and Medicare needs a physician or other qualified practitioner to certify your plan of care.

Where is a flat, paved place to walk in Denver?

Sloan’s Lake has a paved 2.6-mile loop with softer dirt paths alongside. VISIT DENVER describes the Cherry Creek and South Platte River trails as basically flat; both are mostly concrete or asphalt, so you can turn around whenever you want.

Are there free running or walking groups in Denver?

Yes. Runners Roost hosts free weekly store runs (Denver store, Wednesdays at 6 pm) that welcome walkers and first-timers. Walk with a Doc runs free monthly walks at Kaiser Permanente’s Skyline offices and with Denver Health.
